Safety

Throughout the tests that are performed in this blog, it is important to follow certain safety procedures when trying them at home, or even in a lab. Since the materials used are household materials, extreme safety precautions and lab procedures may not be necessary. However.....

  1. Clothing: Avoid loose clothing and long hair. (Tie up your hair if you can). Make sure your feet have protection.
  2. Always be aware of exit fire routes, especially when working with flammable and combustible material, like pipe drainers and air fresheners.
  3. Do not leave test unattended.
  4. All injuries must be tended to immediately by a figure of authority or guardian, regardless of severity.
  5. Work in a cleaned, spaced, uncrowded area.
  6. Do not throw materials or objects (we know-that apple is tempting).
  7. Carefully follow instructions and guidelines
  8. Do not taste substance unless indicated.
  9. ALWAYS clean up when finished.

With every material we work with, a safety symbol will be placed along with the post if the material has any safety hazards. Here are some symbols and to look out for:

HHPS
(Hazardous Household Products Symbols)

WHMIS
(Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
